I know it takes a lot of getting used to being back here in Cebu. But after three weeks of trekking the jungles of Metro Cebu, I can say I have learned to not mind the chaos and the dirt that envelopes this mighty town. The stench and the blighted urban landscape is getting oh too familiar. I have stopped making it my business to say something and anything about it. I should know that this is a different town.
I would be the worst hypocrite on earth if I say that the lack of manners and courtesy doesn’t annoy me anymore. I must say, it gets into my nerves, always! No please, excuse me, sorry, thank you. I wouldn’t like that. Perhaps, it is cultural. But perhaps, Filipinos need to learn how to respect private/personal space. Why on earth do we have this need to get ahead of the crowd even though cutting through lines and lanes wouldn’t help us one bit? Ayyyyyy!
But despite all these, I have learned to appreciate the good things that this society has. For the lack of high technology and efficiency, there is the sweet smile and hospitality. In the absence of a better gadget, there is always cheap labor!
And finally, the dust has settled. I need to shake it off and shower now…
